Personal Summary

Dr. Rene Bilingwe Ayiseh is a Senior Instructor of Biotechnology in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He has worked on cell death processes and inflammation, with a special focus on inflammatory bowel diseases. In his PhD studies, he used transgenic mice to elucidate the contribution of cell death and inflammation (apoptosis, necroptosis and pyroptosis) to chemically-induced colon inflammation.

His current research work is on drug discovery for onchocerciasis, and he developed many small laboratory animal models to study onchocerciasis and loiasis. These animal models are being used for onchocerciasis drug screens in collaboration with our partners at the New York Blood Center and University of California San Francisco.

His future research interest includes infectious diseases like typhoid fever.

He speaks English, French and Dutch.
