Female Aspirations for Higher Education in Cameroon: Assessing Students Perceptions of Parental Influence.

Etta Mercy Aki is an instructor and PhD student in the Department of Educational Foundations and Administration of the Faculty of Education at the University of Buea. She has interest in educational development and particularly in best practices and initiatives to make education more inclusive and beneficial for all. Starting from a school/community level, she carried out a research titled ‘the effects of nursery education on the intellectual development of pupils in Bojongo, South West Region of Cameroon’ in an attempt to evaluate the contributions of nursery education and its practices to the intellectual development of children in this area.
Her current research evaluates the predictive variables of young female aspirations for higher education in line with the recommendations of the sector wide approach of education aimed at improving on the education of girls in priority zones such as the South West Region of Cameroon. Equally, her work with the university of Buea as a part- time teacher since 2012 and currently as an instructor has afforded her the opportunity to supervise over 30 undergraduate research works to completion. This has helped her to build more reflective inquiry skills in young researchers interested in quality and innovative research and has equally helped her to broaden her knowledge in aspects of methodology and statistical techniques across interdisciplinary research.
She has recently published an article and is currently writing a second paper on female students’ expectations of higher education outcomes. Etta Mercy Aki is an excellent public speaker, fluent in English, confident, open minded and has incredible solving abilities.
