About HTTTC

Ever since its creation by Presidential Decree No 201/090 of 7th March 2014, the Higher Technical Teachers’ Training College (HTTTC) Kumba of the University of Buea, has contributed significantly towards enhancing technical education training in Cameroon.

Situated in the economic capital and gateway to the South West Region, the city of Kumba is a cosmopolitan town and serves as host of the college. Kumba is located in Meme Division, in the South West Region of the Republic of Cameroon.

Since the creation of the college in 2014, the college has had three successive Directors. The pioneer director, Professor Joyce B. Endeley served the college from March 2014 to August 2015. She laid a solid foundation for academic and administrative excellence in the training of technical school teachers. She was succeeded by Prof. Agbor Micheal Ntui who occupied the position of director between September 2015 and June 2017. His stewardship and duty consciousness culminated to the maiden graduation of 397 student teachers of the First and second cycle on the 2nd of June 2017. He was replaced in the position by my humble self, Prof. Akume Daniel Akume

Our degree programs, including undergraduate and postgraduate offerings, cover a wide range of technical disciplines, ensuring students receive a well-rounded education. We emphasize practical training and workshops to develop hands-on skills, enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios. HTTTC also fosters a supportive learning environment, where students benefit from experienced faculty members and collaborative projects.

THE CHANGING TIDES

The changing tides in education and technology have seen the college grown by leaps and bounds. Through, the support of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Buea Prof. Ngomo Horace Manga, the college can now boast of cutting edge programmes in both its classical (teacher-training) and other professional programmes in the field of tertiary and industrial sciences, cutting across DIPET I & II, HND/HPD Programmes and Bachelor Degree programmes in different fields with more programmes still to come in the nearest future.

Despite some inadequacies, the college has remained true to its mission of training and developing skilled human resources in technical education both in the industrial and tertiary sciences, particularly destined for the English sub-system of education in Cameroon.

In keeping with the vision of the Head of State, His Excellency President Paul Biya on the professionalization of Higher Education as a bedrock for an emergent Cameroon by 2035, the college through its Scientific Committee has designed ambitious programmes to enhance the training of Cameroonians and foreigners in diverse technical fields.

THE RAISON D'ETRE

The raison d’etre of these programmes cannot be overemphasized as it will act as a major driver for innovation to the university through research and practice. Equally, these programmes will contribute significantly in developing innovative solutions to common problems in our communities through outreach. This again will satisfy the quintessence for the existence of the University of Buea and HTTTC Kumba in particular.

The College has harness cutting edge technology in its vision to train teachers and young professionals through its theoretical and hands-on approach to quality training. This holistic approach of training emphasizes the need for knowledge and skills in the industrial and tertiary domains. We offer both applications oriented and teacher training study programmes for the industrial and tertiary disciplines. This combination of academic profiles opens up a wealth of educational paths shaped according to individual preferences and potentials.
